3 tips to keep you on track.

Your job search has not working out then one of the best things to do is to further evaluate your overall search strategies to find out where you are going wrong in your overall job search. Job search start with and end with networking so it's important to connect with others by making networking phone calls.

1. Create a list of everyone you know such as past and present co-workers, bank tellers, family members, extended family, friends, neighbors, hairdresser/barber, dog groomer, and more. Focus on making at least 3-5 new networking phone calls each week. Most people are able to produce a list of at least 50-100 people. Talking or calling each person on your list will launch your chances of obtaining a new job.

What to do if You’re Overqualified?

You have the job interview and the potential employer takes a further look into your resume and makes note of all of the work you’ve completed then says the dreaded work so many hate to hear which is that they are overqualified for the job. There are several tactics to try out to improve your job possibilities.

There are many career experts who have warned many job seekers to not apply for job positions from that they know they’re overqualified as there is a possibility of decreased salary potential, increased amounts of boredom, and a larger amount of applicants applying for the same job. Many overqualified candidates are also seen as taking the job as a temporary opportunity until they find a better job and then leave that position. They feel that this type of candidate would not be loyal to the company in the long run. So most companies find it’s in their best interest to reject a potential employee who has more qualifications than what is required for the job.

According to information gathered at the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area has an unemployment rate of 10.3% and ranks 269 of 372 (Nov 2010). This news by itself is not that bad but it is certainly not welcome to the hundreds or thousands who are currently looking for work.

San Francisco Jobs Report

San Francisco and nearby Marin county have two of the lowest state unemployment rates. Both are currently slightly above 10%, but this is quite low considering the rest of the state falls into the low teens and cities like Los Angeles and San Diego are much higher as well. The fact the San Francisco’s unemployment rate is relatively low can be owed to the fact that the city’s economy is extremely diverse and has been able to show resiliency in nearly every other major economic recession or depression. The city’s banking and trade influences as well as the fact that it is a major educational hub help to buoy San Francisco’s numbers a bit. Tourism, which has been a major pillar of economic strength for the city has also helped keep tens of thousands of jobs in the Bay Area.
